Oakland City Police Chief Tim Gaines is advising the public about scam mail that some area residents have been receiving.
The mail appears to be advertising giving police departments free equipment, likely funded by seeking donations, but to their knowledge agencies are not receiving anything from this organization.
It also contained a dollar bill, so they recommended that if you get one, check if there is any money inside before throwing it out.
