As the Fourth of July approaches, the American Red Cross is calling on blood and platelet donors across Southern Indiana to make an appointment and help support the national blood supply. Residents in counties including Dubois, Perry, Daviess, Spencer, Gibson, Warrick, Vanderburgh, and others are encouraged to give, with a special focus on Type O blood donors.
Donations are particularly crucial during the summer months when travel and holiday celebrations often cause a dip in turnout. The Red Cross reports that trauma victims, surgical patients, and those with chronic illnesses are especially at risk if blood supplies fall short. Type O negative blood, known as the universal donor, is vital in emergencies when there isn’t time to determine a patient’s blood type. Meanwhile, Type O positive is the most common blood type, making it essential for everyday patient care.
To show appreciation, the Red Cross is offering exclusive Red Cross x goodr sunglasses to all donors who give between July 1 and July 14, 2025, while supplies last. Each pair comes with a sticker to personalize the shades with the donor’s blood type. Those who donate by June 30 are eligible to receive a $15 Amazon.com Gift Card by email and will be automatically entered for a chance to win one of two $7,000 gift cards.
