Maxine “Joyce” Lawrence, 81, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at U of L Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

She was born on November 21, 1943 to Sherman Henry and Lela Marie (Leighty) Rhodes in Pike County, Indiana.  Joyce was a homemaker and babysitter. She loved playing bingo, cards and spending time with family, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, David Mathias; two brothers, Bernard and Theodore Rhodes; four sisters, Myrtle Nichols, Mae Kinman, Betty Cleveland and Marilyn Fettinger; and one grandson, Christopher Mathias.

Joyce is survived by her husband, James Lawrence of Huntingburg; children, David Wayne (Rachelle) Mathias, Robert Douglas (Anne) Mathias, both of Huntingburg, Anthony Scott (Sharon) Mathias of Jeffersonville, Ricky Joe (Lynette) Mathias of Winslow, and Kristy Lynn Lawrence of Huntingburg; one sister, Loretta (James) Hainley of Greenwood; 10 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and many step great-grandchildren.

Funeral service for Maxine Lawrence will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 4,2025. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg.  Pastor William Covey will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
