Hilliard “Max” Englert, 89 of Ferdinand passed away Tuesday October 27th in Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. He was born March 26, 1926 in Ferdinand to Adolph & Rose (Gehlhausen) Englert. He married Pauline Kleiser on August 21, 1948 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

Surviving are his wife Pauline Englert, 2 sons, Denny Englert and his wife Becky of Ferdinand, and Tom Englert and wife Cheryl of Jasper. 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. 1 sister, Ramona Lindauer of Jasper, 2 brothers, Floyd Englert and wife Ruth and Sylvan Englert and wife Rosie both of Ferdinand.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Leatrise Englert. Hilliard retired as a mechanic at Bolte’s Service Center in Ferdinand. He was a WWII Army Veteran and served in the Philippines. He was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish, Jasper Veterans of Foreign Wars # 673 & Ferdinand American Legion Post 124. He was a retired fireman with the Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Dept. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, and making homebrew & wine.

Funeral services 10:00 AM Friday October 30th in St. Henry Catholic Church, St. Henry, with burial to follow in St. Ferdinand Church Cemetery. Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 2 to 8:00 PM Thursday and 7 to 9:30 AM Friday at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand.
