Eugene A. Verkamp, 69 of Ferdinand passed away at his home Tuesday November 3rd 2015. He was born July 28, 1946 in Ferdinand to Albert & Augusta (Krampe) Verkamp. He married Phyllis Schlachter on May 24, 1986 on the family farm.

Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Verkamp, two sons, Neil Verkamp, & John Fleig and his wife Rebecca both of Ferdinand.Two daughters, Becky Seng and husband Steve of Dubois and Elizabeth “Ebby” Weyer and husband Nick of Ferdinand. Six grandchildren Xander & Brooklyn Fleig, Kennedy & Addison Weyer, Austin & Shyann Seng.two brothers, Joseph Verkamp of Jasper, Dennis Verkamp and wife Camille of Moorsville, four sisters, Mary Ann Verkamp and husband Paul Brown of Indianapolis, Carol Burger and husband Ted of Fairland, In., Ruth Wibbels and husband John of Jasper, & Rachel Hurm and husband Roger of Rockport. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother Lauretta Verkamp.

Gene was a retired carpenter and superintendent at Seufert Construction Company. He was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and its St. Joseph’s Sodality. He was a lifetime member of The Ferdinand Community Center, and the St. Anthony Conservation Club. He coached 5th & 6th grade girls basketball at Ferdinand Elementary for 15 years. He was Owner/Operator of Beagles & Bunnies and trained beagles for many years. His hobbies include fishing, hunting, making wine, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a true outdoorsman.

Funeral services 10:00 AM Saturday November 7th in Saint Henry Catholic Church, St. Henry, burial to follow in Saint Ferdinand Church Cemetery, Ferdinand. Friends may call from 2 to 8:00 PM Friday & 7 to 9:30 AM Saturday at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ferdinand Church Renew.
