Cletus Schaefer, 78, of Evanston, passed away, Wednesday, June 1st at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville. Cletus was born June 5, 1937 in Huntingburg to Edward and Francis (Waninger) Schaefer. Cletus married Doris Woebkenberg on May 2, 1959 in St. Joseph’s Church in Dale. She preceded him in death on January 18, 2008. Cletus was a lifelong farmer.

He belonged to St. Boniface Church in Fulda and also it’s Men’s Sodality. Cletus was a former Director of St. Joseph’s Mutual Insurance. Cletus served as a member of the National Guard and belonged to St. Meinrad American Legion.

Cletus is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Jane) Schaefer of Lamar and Donald (Connie) Schaefer of Dale; two daughters, Jill (Tony) Mehling of Ferdinand and Joy Brock of Evanston; his companion Bronie Leland of Evanston; nine grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; one great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence (Belle) Schaefer of Ft. Branch; two sisters, Mildred (Martin) Lindauer of Ft. Branch and Dorothy (Wilfred) Lindauer of St. Henry. Cletus was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Schaefer and a sister Helen Harpeneau.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 9:00 AM CDT in St. Boniface Church in Fulda. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call Friday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand from 2-8:00 PM CDT and Saturday from 8:00 AM CDT at the church until time of services.
