Rose Mary Steltenpohl, 94, of Ferdinand, passed away, Monday, November 7th at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. Rose was born June 18, 1922 in Ferdinand to Ben and Frances (Weyer) Laake. She married Herman Steltenpohl on September 18, 1945 in St. Ferdinand Church.

rose-steltenohlHe preceded her in death on, August 30, 2001. Rose was a cook at Marian Heights Academy and also worked in Holiday Foods Grocery and Red & White Grocery Store.

She was a member of St. Ferdinand Church and its St. Anne’s Sodality and Daughters of Isabella. She belonged to Ferdinand Senior Citizens, Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 Auxiliary, and was a Life Member of Ferdinand Community Center. Rose enjoyed embroidering, quilting, cooking, canning, baking and playing cards and games.

She enjoyed time with family and friends. Rose is survived by two daughters, Susan A. (Mark) Bruner of Chattanooga, TN. and Judith “Judy” R. (Marty) Schmidt of Noblesville, IN.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; two brothers, Emil and Linus Laake; one sister, Alice Olinger.

Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8:00 PM at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and Friday from 7-9:30 AM at the Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be Friday at 10:00 AM in St. Ferdinand Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
