Martina “Teeny” H. Erny, age 98 of Jasper passed away at 5:08 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2017, in Brookside Village in Jasper.

She was born in Jasper, Indiana on July 6, 1918 to Frank and Agatha (Gardner) Mendel. She married Aloysius “Woody” Erny on August 31, 1937 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

Martina was a member of the first graduating Class of Jasper High School class of 1936. She worked as a book Keeper in several retail stores in the area including the Greek Candy Kitchen, J.J. Newberry, Sears Roebuck, Corbins and a teachers Aid at Jasper Middle School.

She is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed golf, camping and the Chicago Cubs traveling.

Surviving are four sons,
Gerald “Jerry” Erny, Vincennes, IN
James Erny and wife Janice, Jasper, IN
Melvin “Bud” Erny and wife Kathy, Vincennes, IN
John Erny and wife Sharon, Ireland, IN

11 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death besides her husband are two sisters, Petronella Rothenberg and Margaret Schum. Also three brothers, Jerome, Sylvester and Maurice Mendel.

Funeral services for Martina Erny will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2017, in St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Rosary by the St. Anne’s and D of I’s at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral Home.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the American Cancer Society.
