Ruby Fern Gramelspacher, age 94, of Jasper, Indiana, peacefully passed away in her home at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2017.

Ruby was born in Daviess County, Indiana on March 5, 1922, the fifth of 11 children, to Richard and Bertha Elizabeth (Cox) Huls. She married her high school sweetheart, John W. Gramelspacher after his return from WWII. They were married on October 9, 1947 in Our Lady of the Springs Catholic Church in French Lick, Indiana. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2003.

Ruby was a 1942 graduate of Jasper High School. Upon graduation she worked at the Dubois County Bank.

She was a founding parishioner of Precious Blood Catholic Church and a member of their Ladies Sodality. Along with John, she was inducted into the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre. While busy with a young family, Ruby was both a girl scout and a cub scout leader, volunteered with the Patoka Valley Center for Handicapped Children and at Memorial Hospital. She and John hosted many exchange students from all over the world. Entertaining came easy to Ruby whether tailgating, hosting business friends or gathering her large family.

Preceding her in death besides her husband are six sisters, Norma Opel, Helen Himsel, Wava Critchlow, Phyllis Neal, Jean Breidenbaugh and Edna Huls, and four brothers, Forrest, Larry, Jerry and Leo Huls.

Funeral services for Ruby Fern Gramelspacher will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017, at Precious Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at the church on Friday.

Memorial contributions in Ruby’s honor may be made to the Precious Blood Endowment, Holy Trinity Catholic School Endowment or Sisters of Providence.
