Roberta C. McGovren, age 99 of Jasper, IN, passed away at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper, IN.

Roberta was born in Jasper, Indiana on June 19, 1917 to Robert J. and Josephine (Schmitt) Fuhs. She married Joseph J. McGovren on June 7, 1941 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He preceded her in death on May 23, 2000.

Roberta operated Roberta’s Beauty Shop before her marriage. She was a licensed insurance agent and worked at R. J. Fuhs Agency for more than 50 years and retired at the age of 96.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, and their St. Ann’s Society, and the Jasper Circle of the Daughters of Isabella. She was a member of the American Legion Post #147 Auxiliary and the VFW Post #673 Auxiliary. Roberta was a volunteer at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center and enjoyed watching IU Basketball and doing word search puzzles. She was previously active in the Dubois County Mental Health Association and was an excellent seamstress.

Roberta and her husband Joe were Friends of Bill W and touched many lives through their involvement with Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon. They attended AA conventions all across the United States.

Surviving are two sons, Jim (Linda) Mc Govren and John (Susan) McGovren, both of Jasper, one grandson, Matt (Kelly ) McGovren of New York City, and one granddaughter, Shea (Brad) Fleck of Indianapolis.

Preceding her in death beside her husband was one son Michael McGovren and one daughter Maureen McGovren.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial to follow at a later date in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
