Dennis Lee Abell, age 74, of Huntingburg, passed away at 5:20 p.m., on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at his residence.

He was born May 15, 1943, in Jasper, Indiana to Colonel and Elma (Chanley) Abell. Dennis was united in marriage to Winonah Elaine Cook on April 16, 1966, at the Birdseye Christian Church. He retired as vice president of safety and maintenance at Perkins Specialized Transportation; and afterward worked part-time at Sternberg International Truck Sales. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg; served in the Army National Guard; and enjoyed spending time with his two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stillborn infant son, Jeffrey Neil Abell; and one brother, Gene Abell.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Winonah Elaine Abell of Huntingburg; his son and daughter-in-law, Chris (Jessica) Abell of Huntingburg; five siblings, Carol Platthy of Santa Claus, Marilyn Wollenmann of Plainfield, Illinois, Elwood Abell of Huntingburg, Larry Abell of Huntingburg, Pete Abell of Jasper; and by two grandchildren, Loren and Cory Abell.

Funeral services for Dennis Lee Abell will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg with burial to follow at the Birdseye Cemetery in Birdseye, Indiana. Pastor Mark West will officiate at the service.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00-8:00 p.m., on Friday; and also at Salem United Church of Christ from 1:00-2:00 p.m., on Saturday.
