Betty Ann Brunsman, age 87, of Huntingburg, passed away at 8:45 p.m., on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at The Waters of Huntingburg.

She was born September 16, 1930, in Huntingburg, Indiana to Ervin O. and Daisy M. (Jeffries) Spurlock. Betty was a graduate of the Huntingburg High School Class of 1949 where she was a member of the band. She enjoyed attending the Happy Hunters basketball games and continued following them even when they became the Southridge Raiders. Upon graduation, she worked for General Electric; followed by employment with the City of Huntingburg as secretary under Mayor Dale Helmerich.

She was united in marriage to Robert E. “Bob” Brunsman on October 29, 1960, at Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg. Upon marrying Bob and having children, she retired from her job with the City to be a stay-at-home mom and help Bob on the farm. One of her favorite jobs on the farm was cooking for the farm hands and it was known that some of the boys worked on the farm just to get Betty’s cooking. In her later years she worked for Green Bay Fuels; was a teacher’s aide for the Southwest School Corporation; and her last place of employment was probably her favorite – as an employee of Hummingbird Day Care in Holland, where she worked for ten years. She had the ability to handle the most trying kids that came along and the children would always listen to Betty.

She was a member of the Augerona Rebekah Lodge #338; and lifelong member of Salem United Church of Christ where she participated in the Women’s Guild, helped chair the annual Easter morning breakfast, and was mostly known for all the years teaching Sunday school with Audrey Haas. When Betty’s grandchildren came along she truly enjoyed being a part of their lives and school activities. Betty was preceded in death by both of her parents, Ervin and Daisy Spurlock; her first husband, Herbert J. Schenetzke, who passed away in 1959; her second husband, Robert E. “Bob” Brunsman, who passed away on June 25, 2011; and her sister-in-law, Vera Marie Peach, who just recently passed away on October 19, 2017.

Betty is survived by one son, Donovan E. Brunsman of Huntingburg; one daughter, Denise A. (spouse: Greg) Gentry of Huntingburg; three grandchildren, Courtney (spouse: Chad) (Gentry) Jacob of Schnellville, Molly Brunsman of Huntingburg and Derek Brunsman of Huntingburg; and one great granddaughter, Charlee Jacob.

Funeral services for Betty Ann Brunsman will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 29, 2017, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Mayo Cemetery near Duff. Pastor Mark West will officiate at the service.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home from 2:00-8:00 p.m., Saturday, October 28th; and also from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Sunday.
