All four Dubois County high school marching bands will take part in the annual Indiana State School Music Association Scholastic Preliminaries and Open Class Invitational contest Saturday on Joe Rohleder Field at Jerry Brewer Alumni Stadium in Jasper.

The Northeast Dubois Marching Jeeps are the only local band that compete in the Scholastic Class — an alternative means of competition for programs that opt out of the ISSMA Open Class — and have the most riding on Saturday’s contest in Jasper.

They will perform at 12:18 p.m.

If they earn a gold rating, the band will move on to the ISSMA Scholastic Class Finals contest at Lawrence Central in Indianapolis on Saturday, October 20th.

The Jasper Marching Wildcats, Southridge Marching Raiders and Forest Park Marching Rangers will compete Saturday in the open invitational portion of Jasper’s contest — an event that does not influence their path toward the ISSMA state championship.

Last week, Northeast Dubois placed seventh out of nine bands in the Open Class contest at the Springs Valley High School Festival of Marching Bands.

Jasper crossed the Ohio into Louisville and performed in the Ballard High School Bruin Invitational last Saturday and placed second in the contest’s open class. The band placed third out of 15 bands overall. Jasper also performed in exhibition at Springs Valley on Saturday, but did not receive a placement.

The Marching Wildcats will compete at 6:35 tomorrow (Saturday) evening at the local Open Class Invitational in Class C at Alumni.

Last weekend Southridge earned top honors in the 1A Class at the Evansville Harrison High School Invitational. The Raiders placed first ahead of Tell City High School and Evansville Mater Dei High School and will perform at 4:12 p.m. Saturday at Jasper’s Open Class Invitational in Class D.

And the Forest Park Marching Rangers placed first in Class D at the Springs Valley Festival of Marching Bands last Saturday and were also named the overall winners of the invitational.
Forest Park will compete in Class D at Jasper’s Open Class Invitational at 5:56 pm on Saturday.
