81-year-old Alfred J. Hoffman of Ferdinand passed away on Friday, July 19th at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper.

Alfred was born August 15, 1937, in Celestine to Charles and Anna (Mathies) Hoffman. Alfred married Ann Schaefer on July 16, 1977, in St. Ferdinand Church.

Alfred was employed at Masterbrand for 45 years where he retired as a manager. He served in the National Guard. Alfred was a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church. He belonged to the Ferdinand American Legion Post 124, Ferdinand Knights of Columbus, Ferdinand and Celestine Community Centers.  He enjoyed building furniture and playing cards.

Alfred is survived by his wife, Ann of Ferdinand; two sons, Scott (Jennifer) Hoffman and Jim Hoffman all of Ferdinand; two sisters, Frieda Berg of Ferdinand and Jenny Elkins of Celestine; one grandson, Logan Hoffman.

Alfred was preceded in death by a sister Leona Schlachter and a sister in infancy; three brothers-in-law, Jerome Schlachter, Gervase Berg, and Calvin Elkins.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 AM in St. Ferdinand Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday morning at the church from 8:00 AM until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Parish or Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center.
