Leona M. Schlachter, age 89 of Celestine passed away at 2:12 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2019, in St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
She was born on November 18, 1929 in Celestine, Indiana to Charles and Anna (Mathies) Hoffman. She married Jerome J. Schlachter on October 27, 1949 in St. Celestine Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1988.
Leona was a member of St. Isadore Parish – St. Celestine Church and the St. Anne Society. She worked at the Celestine Community Club for 30 years and enjoyed making quilts.
Surviving: Four daughters, Linda Mehringer (Fred), Susie Looney, Sharon Knies (Donald), Marilyn Hochgesang (Charles), all of Jasper, IN
5 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Frieda Berg, Ferdinand, IN, Jenny Elkins, Celestine, IN, and one brother, Alfred Hoffman (Ann), Ferdinand, IN
Preceding her in death is one sister who died in infancy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019, in St. Celestine Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Celestine Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at St. Celestine Catholic Church.
