Charles “Charlie” L. Hurst, age 74, of Ireland, Indiana, passed away at 11:57 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at home surrounded by family.

Charlie was born in Huntingburg, Indiana, on June 3, 1949, to Othmar and Florence (Lechner) Hurst.  He married Janice R. Mundy on August 1, 1970, in Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana.

He retired from Kimball International where he was employed as a truck driver for 30 years.

Charlie was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland and the Jasper Outdoor Recreation Club.

He loved gardening, playing cards, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janice Hurst, Ireland, one daughter; Laura (Eric) Haas, Jasper, one son; Dr. Jason (Dr. Jackye) Hurst, Manakin-Sabot, Virginia, three granddaughters; Alissa, Emily, and Leah Haas, one grandson; Jaxon Hurst; two sisters; Ruth Ann Harkness, Oden, and Mary (Frank) Senninger, Ireland, and sister-in-law; Irma Kinder, Ireland.   

He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Donny and Kenny Hurst.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Charles L. “Charlie” Hurst will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023, in St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana. A burial will be scheduled at a later date in St. Mary Catholic Church Cemetery.  

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass time on Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
