Mary Lou Bohnenkemper, age 92, of Huntingburg, formally of Stendal passed away on August 25, 2024, at her home in Huntingburg.

She was born February 18, 1932, in Stendal, Indiana, to Edgar Everett and Norma Elnora (Weitkamp) McAllister.  She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Oakland City College and went on to earn her Master’s Degree in education from Indiana State University in Terre Haute.   Mary Lou taught   3rd grade at both Huntingburg and Holland Schools.  She married Donald E. Bohnenkemper on June 8, 1957, at Zoar United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School classes, sang in the choir, and served as church treasurer.  She enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Donald.

She is survived by her two daughters, Janie (Tim) Meyer, and Joni Bohenkemper both of Huntingburg; one sister, Ruth Evelyn Knight of Ellettsville; one brother, Dale (LaValla) McAllister of Evansville; four grandchildren, Joshua Meyer, Caleb (Brittany) Meyer, Jordan (Jared) Merter, Canaan (John) Preston; and five great-grandchildren, Charlie, Abi, Andie, Izzy and Rylie.

Visitation for Mary Bohnenkemper will be held at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00-8:00 p.m., E.D.T., Thursday, August 29, 2024.  Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024, with burial to follow at Zoar Cemetery in Holland.
