Mary Virginia Steltenpohl, 89, of Ferdinand, passed away Wednesday at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. Mary was born February 10, 1928 in Mariah Hill to Albert “Shorty” and Verena (Gogel) Wirthwein.

She married Ralph “Roxie” J. Steltenpohl on June 3, 1947 in Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Mariah Hill. Ralph preceded her in death on September 22, 1997.

Mary was a daycare provider who truly loved spending time with children. She enjoyed reading, gardening, quilting, bird-watching and watching gameshows.

Mary is survived by two sons, Joseph Steltenpohl and Glen (Anja) Steltenpohl all of Ferdinand; one daughter, Diane (James) King of Ferdinand; three sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Hoffman of Ann Arbor, MI., Rosie (Dan) Hauser of Schnellville and Vera Lee (Dick) Zingraf of Fishers; one brother, Michael (Patty) Wirthein of Grandview, IN; two grandchildren, Megan King of Ferdinand and Crystal Steltenpohl of Chicago. Mary was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Wirthwein and a grandson, Ian King.

Funeral services will be Tuesday in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church at 10:00 AM with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 2-8:00 PM at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and on Tuesday from 7-9:30 AM at the funeral home. Online condolences may be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com.
