John S. VanWinkle, 79, of Ferdinand, died Monday, October 23rd in Adyeville. John was born June 28, 1938 in Adyeville to Preston and Schlostica “Lostie” Dotterweich. He married Phyllis Daunhauer on November 14, 1981 in Mariah Hill.

John was a retired machinist for North American Products and also a Farmer. He was passionate about the work he did. John truly loved spending time with animals and working around the family farm. He loved being with his family and friends. John was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Ferdinand; two daughters, Shelley (Keith) Wigand of Ferdinand and Karla (Bobby) VanWinkle of Munster, IN; two step-daughters, Tammy (Mike) Spurlock of Santa Claus and Amy (Andy) Hagedorn of Adyeville; two step-sons, Kurt (Amy) Daunhauer of Evansville and Neal (Krista) Daunhauer of Bloomington; one brother, Harold (Mildred) VanWinkle of Ferdinand; four sisters, Maxine Boehman of Jasper, Faye Hagedorn of Santa Claus, Wanda Flamion of Zionsville and Alice (Alan) Woebkenberg of Evansville; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by a brother, Jim VanWinkle and a sister, Lois Ann VanWinkle.

Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8:00 PM and Friday from 7-9:30 AM at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.

Funeral services will be Friday at 10:00 AM in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Meinrad Church Cemetery.
