Richard J. Begle, age 90, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away surrounded by family at 2:13 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Brookside Village in Jasper.
Rich was born in Jasper, Indiana, on February 10, 1933, to John and Frieda (Wendholt) Begle. He married Rita Knust on April 14, 1956, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand, Indiana. She preceded him in death on February 10, 2011.
Rich was a 1951 graduate of Jasper High School.
He was a United States Army Veteran.
He retired from Kimball, where he had worked for over 43 years; after retirement he continued to work at Kimball as a night watchman.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the American Legion Post #147.
Rich enjoyed playing softball, watching I.U., the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Jasper Wildcats, and attending and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Surviving are three children, Randy (Jane) Begle, Rick (Glenda) Begle, and Ruth (Phil) Hopf, all of Jasper, IN, six grandchildren, Andy Begle, Landon, Caleb (Elizabeth) and Tyler (fiancé, Kinsey Bromm) Begle, and Brittney (Alex) Krempp and Austin Hopf, three great grandchildren, Amelia, Noah, and Grace, and one sister, Annie Altmeyer, Huntingburg, IN.
Preceding him in death besides his wife are two brothers, Ernie and Leroy Begle.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard J. Begle will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military gravesite rites.
A visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana.
