Jerald Carl Schwartz, 88, died March 12, 2019, at his home in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Jerald was born in 1930 in Monon, IN.  His parents were Arthur P. Schwartz & Mildred N. (Beck) Schwartz, and siblings Stanley, Arnold, Ruth (Esarey), & Alan. He married Jeanann (Knight) Condrey in 1957, and his surviving family are his children Kathy Priem (husband Gary), Judith Nastally (husband Ron Furniss), Jeffrey Schwartz, & Amy Zieles (husband Michael); and his grandchildren Ian Nastally (wife Brigitte), Anastasia Priem, Garrison Priem, Mitchell Zieles, and Sean Zieles.

Jerald grew up in Huntingburg, Indiana where he attended the local high school and was class president for 4 years, and a National Merit Scholarship winner.  After graduation, he was accepted at Indiana University in Bloomington where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity (officer sergeant of arms), was a member of ROTC, played alto saxophone in the Marching 100, and graduated with a BS in Business.

In 1953 Jerald enlisted in the US Army and was commissioned in the Army Corp of Engineers through 1961.  He was on active duty 2 years, where he spent 14 months in Korea, part of the 2nd & 3rd Infantry Divisions, & KMAG (Korean Military Advisory Group – Taegu); and the remaining time as company commander at Fort Carson, Colorado Company A, 32nd Engineer Combat Battalion, and Army Corp of Engineers Evansville, Indiana, Battalion S2.

In 1956 Jerald began work for International Business Machines (Evansville, IN), and he worked for the company for 23 years until 1979.  During his career with IBM he held many positions and was frequently promoted; some of those being Test Center Instructor & Manager (Cincinnati, OH), Lead Systems Engineer (White Plaines, NY), Systems Engineering Manager (New York, NY), Sales & Systems Analyst – World Trade Headquarters (New York, NY), Sales & Data Processing (Fort Wayne, IN).  His achievements during his time there included: 5 – 100% Club Awards, 3 – Golden Circle Awards (top 5% of sales in the USA), and winning trips to Miami, FL, San Juan, PR, and San Francisco, CA.

Jerald continued to work for the rest of his life until 2018 when his battle with cancer was coming to an end.  His last position at the age of 87 was as Number 1 Employee for his daughter Judith’s landscaping company (J. Lynne Associates).  The years in between he held many jobs primarily using his computer, sales, and people management skills, some of those being; forming his own company (Jerico Inc.), working for the City of Fort Wayne, (Director Data Processing),  Entre Computers, Sears, and GNC.

Jerald loved living life and experiencing all the world had to offer. He enjoyed the company of people, sharing his own stories with intentional comedic timing. But, he was just as interested in actively listening to the stories of others. In a crowd of strangers, with Jerald in the room, there would be no worries about awkward silence. In his later years, he was purposeful about communicating his love to family members and his unabashed pride in their accomplishments at every birthday, graduation, wedding, and holiday. His charismatic personality and incredible sense of humor up to the very end will be sorely missed. To honor his enthusiasm for living, his family will recognize his passing with a celebration of his life.

Visitation and funeral services will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with visitation from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and the funeral at 3:00 p.m., Friday afternoon.  Interment will take place at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg.  Military graveside rites will be conducted by the V.F.W.
